SORG Latin America
The SORG Latin American Regional Group is a fairly young section, only founded in November 2011.
Main focus of this group will be teaching and education in the regional area as well as the scientific exchange amongst colleagues on all CMF-related topics: Trauma, Orthognathic surgery, TMJ, Reconstruction, Craniofacial, Head & neck as well as preprosthetic surgery. The section aims for a close cooperation with the major SORG institutions based in Europe and the USA.
From the scientific standpoint the section is dedicated to:
- Basic science in bone healing and biomechanics, stress vectors and stress shielding
- Instrumentation and equipment which allows the development of new materials, instrument design and surgical practice. This counts in the same way for diagnostic purpose as for surgical practice.
- New technologies on both technical data, virtual planning, robotics and others.
- Application of software, instrumentation and new elements which can incorporate into our clinical practice.
Because of the large geographic distance as well as the high cultural and economic difference and open mind towards different surgical approaches is of high importance to the group.
