Course concept
This course is designed to provide attendees with the knowledge and skills to assess and manage the most typical TMJ pathologies, in line with curriculum objectives for maxillofacial surgery training. It includes lectures which describe clinical assessment, imaging and possible treatment options of chronic TMJ pathology. Discussion and exchange amongst colleagues will play an important role in this complex environment.
At the end of the course the participant will be able to:
- have a better understanding about TMJ anatomy
- examine patients with chronic TMJ pathology and to do appropriate investigations
- diagnose and formulate a treatment plan for immediate and ongoing treatment
- understand the principles of most introduced surgical techniques as well as endoscopic options
- have an overview on the suitable options for surgical access and their specific pros and cons
- know about the chances and risks of TMJ replacement
