Course concept
This course will be a 2-day hands-on cadaver workshop with a maximum of two participants per human anatomical specimen (four per cadaver). The teaching will be both on-site lecture presentations and didactic hands-on, taught by experts in the head & neck surgical field assisted by clinical anatomists. The participants will directly start in the anatomical cadaveric dissection laboratory and will spend the full two days taught by experts on how best to perform these procedures, then carry them out on-site with live experts’ demonstrations with no time wastage outside the dissection rooms.
Course topics
- Case-specific preoperative planning – parotidectomies, and neck dissection
- Practical exercise, getting familiar with the cadaveric wet laboratories and dissection technique(s), as well as flap raising
- Anatomical background and all relevant anatomy of – neck dissection(s), parotid (superficial and deep), pectoralis major flap, supraclavicular flap, submental artery flap, nasolabial flap, temporalis flap/temporoparietal fascia flap, latissimus dorsi pedicled flap and trapezius flap
- Advantages and disadvantages of the different regional flaps as well as indications/contraindications
- Pearls and pitfalls
